Parish Council Meeting of 18th May 2017

Written by Anne Rayner.

The Parish Council meeting on 18th May 2017 was attended by Councillors Brian Frith, Beverley Humphreys, Andrew Coleman, Gilly Barnes. Sarah Allen and Dawn Welsby. Also present were the Clerk, District Councillor Barry Duffin and four members of the public.

Some of the main items discussed at the meeting are mentioned here. Full minutes of the meeting are available here in draft form until agreed by the Council at the next meeting (15th June 2017).

The following planning application was discussed:

2017/0946 – The Poplars, 6 Bentley Road – replacement of five windows and two doors. Councillors had no objections to this application, subject to the approval of the listed buildings officer.

Although still some time away, it is hoped there will be an event held at the Tank Museum to commemorate 100 years since the end of World War One. Bruno Peek, organiser of the Queen’s 90th birthday beacon lighting event, is hoping to co-ordinate lighting of 1,000 beacons on 11 November 2018 and one of those will be at the Tank Museum. If anyone has any ideas or feedback of how the village could help to commemorate the date, please get in touch with the clerk or Stephen Machaye at the Tank Museum.

The Transport Police have been in touch with the extremely worrying news that children, thought to be from Forncett, have been playing on the railway tracks. The trains using the line are travelling at 100mph and at that speed it is disconcerting for the driver to see people on the tracks. Nobody wants to hear the news that an accident has happened.

As part of the “Better Broadband for Norfolk” project, a new communications cabinet is to be installed in the verge at the junction of Spring Lane and Low Road, Forncett St Mary. There is no date available as yet for installation. Everyone can check online to see which BT structure their property is served from and available speeds using the BT Line Checker at https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/adsl.htm

Once a fibre solution is available you will get a result showing “VDSL”. Prior to implementation copper based broadband speeds are shown as “ADSL”.

In view of the high cost of reinstating the electricity supply to the disused phone box on Low Road Forncett St Mary, it was decided to site the new defibrillator at the Village Hall. 'Awards for All', who provided the grant, have agreed to this proposal and arrangements are being made for the supply and installation.  It is still hoped that we will be able to adopt the disused phone box, smarten it up and put it to some form of community use.  Any ideas?

Meeting dates for the forthcoming year have been agreed and they will continue to be held on the third Thursday of each month, with no meeting in August. Members of the public are most welcome to attend parish council meetings, there is an open forum section near the beginning of each meeting for any matter to be raised and no-one is obliged to stay for the duration of the whole meeting.

The next parish council meeting will be on Thursday 15th June 2017, at 7.30 pm.  The agenda will be published about a week before the meeting, but if you have any matters to bring to the attention of the Parish Council in the meantime, please contact the clerk, Anne Rayner, on 01508 570700 or by email  .
