Buglife is the only organisation in Europe devoted to the conservation of all invertebrates. We’re actively working to save Britain’s rarest little animals, everything from bees to beetles, worms to woodlice and jumping spiders to jellyfish. The B-Lines programme aims to create and restore at least 150,000 hectares of flower-rich habitat across the UK. B-Lines are a series of ‘insect pathways’ running through our countryside and towns, along which we are restoring and creating a series of wildflower-rich habitat stepping stones. They link existing wildlife areas together, creating a network, like a railway, that will weave across the British landscape.

The Chet Valley B-Line is an ambitious local project to help stop pollinator decline by creating a 3km wide pollinator-friendly corridor along the River Chet. Funding was provided from the Water, Mills & Marshes’ Grand for a Grand Idea small grants project. We are working to improve habitats for bees, hoverflies, butterflies and other pollinating insects along a 17km stretch of the Chet – from its source in Poringland to Hardley, where it meets the Yare and joins the national B-Line network. Locally the Yare, the Bure and Waveney are all part of the national network.

Our projects aim to improve our understanding of bat distribution and activity by providing an opportunity for anyone to take advantage of recent advances in technology for automating the capture and analysis of acoustic data for bats. A citizen science project, multiple sites in Forncett have been surveyed.

Norfolk Wildlife Trust are actively involved in our group and offer advice and information on managing wild spaces. They are the oldest Wildlife Trust in the country. The purchase of 400 acres of marsh at Cley on the north Norfolk coast in 1926 to be held ‘in perpetuity as a bird breeding sanctuary’ provided a blueprint for nature conservation which has now been replicated across the UK.

Hedgerows criss-cross our countryside providing vital habitat for our wildlife as well as acting as corridors for dispersal. But how healthy are our hedgerows? Our surveys provide a health check for our hedges, and give tailored management advice to help ensure this precious habitat can thrive in the future. We are looking for land owners and volunteers to help us build a national picture of hedgerows in the UK, so please take part in the Great British Hedgerow Survey or Healthy Hedgerows today.

Learn how we're working with residents, experts, communities and local authorities to design a better future for nature. Imagine a tool that explains where nature recovery would bring the most benefit to wildlife and people. That tool is the LNRS, one of several measures in the Environment Act 2021 that aim to halt the decline of nature in England.
Resources include excellent mapping tools giving detail to the level of veteran trees, including Irreplaceable Habitat.
