Written by Anne Rayner.

The Parish Council meeting on 15th September 2016 was attended by Councillors Brian Frith, Beverley Humphreys, Andrew Coleman, Graham Gale and Sarah Allen. Also present were five members of the public.

Some of the main items discussed at the meeting are mentioned here. Full minutes of the meeting are available here in draft form until agreed by the Council at the next meeting (20th Octoberl 2016).

It was with sadness that the meeting heard of the recent passing of David Barnes, former Councillor and Chair of the Parish Council and supporter of a wide range of village activities.  It was agreed that a message of condolence would be sent to David’s family.

The Hope Valley planning appeal will be held at South Norfolk Council offices, commencing at 10am on 25 October 2016. Members of the public may speak at the appeal, at the discretion of the planning inspector.

The following planning applications were discussed:

2016 / 2144 – Sequoia, Long Stratton Road – Councillors had no objections.

2016 / 1487 – Land South of Mill Rd – Councillors still have concerns regarding this application and comments to reflect the concerns were submitted accordingly.

County Councillor Bev Spratt said he was pleased that several roads in the area had been re-chipped in recent weeks and hoped that this would mean they would stand up better to the winter weather.

The Chairman attended a meeting at South Norfolk Council recently, concerning all interested parties to the Greater Norwich Local Plan (anyone living within the areas of South Norfolk Council, Norwich City Council and Broadland District Council). This will deal with housing targets and consider wider issues, such as the economy and transport, to 2036. A formal consultation will begin during Autumn 2017, with a draft plan being published Autumn 2018 and adoption in Autumn 2020.

The future of the recycling area at the Village Hall is under review as part of the improvements to car parking etc at the Hall. The bins are now used by very few people, as most people now take advantage of the fact that bottles and jars can now be placed in the green domestic recycling bins.

Our hardworking footpath warden, John Wilde, continues to regularly walk the footpaths in the village. Some new fingerposts have been erected and the parish council and the footpath warden continue to try to work with Norfolk County Council to report issues. If you encounter a problem with a footpath in the village, please do let John Wilde or the clerk know.

It was noted at this meeting that Councillor Bev Humphreys has served a continuous 25 years as a Parish Councillor for Forncett. Thanks to Bev for all his work over the years and his commitment to the Parish Council.

The next meeting will be on Thursday 20 October, commencing at 7.30pm. The agenda will be published about a week before the meeting, but if you have any matters to bring to the attention of the Parish Council in the meantime, please contact the clerk, Anne Rayner, on 01508 570700 or by email  .
