The Time Traveler's Wife, by Audrey Niffenegger
The book chosen for our group to read during March 2009 is The Time Traveler's Wife (yes that is how it's spelt!).
On the cover the Daily Telegraph describes it as 'A big reckless novel...utterly convincing.' This is quite right; it stretches the bounds of credulity with such conviction at the same time as delivering an everyday story of boy-meets -girl.
Henry time travels. He has little control over what could turn out to be a disastrous tendency to evaporate out of his clothes and re-materialise, stark naked, somewhen else. Clare copes with it enchantingly when young, and philosophically when older, providing food and clothing as required, and love and support throughout.
The author helps us through with clear signs and dates, but you need a good clear head to keep up with the Mobius strip of time that twists and weaves through the novel.
Altogether a rewarding read and I look forward to discussing it with the other members of the reading group.
