William. Cookson, born 1754 - died 24 Feb 1820

Admitted: ST JOHN'S March 26 1772 Of Cumberland.
2nd son of of William, mercer of Penrith. School Sedbergh Matric. Michs. 1772; Scholar; B.A. (5th Wrangler) 1776;
M.A. 1779 B.D. 1786 D.D. 1801 Fellow, 1776-89.
Preceptor to the sons of George III 1780.
Rector of St Peter and St Mary Forncett Norfolk, 1788-1804.
Canon of Windsor 1792-1820. Rector of Binfield Berks 1804-20.
Rector of West Ilsley 1808-20.
Married Dorothy, dau. of John Cowper Rector of Penrith Oct 17th 1788
His sister Anne was mother of the poet Wordsworth, and he himself was the father of  George (1812)
and Christopher (1808) Cookson.

The glass is by A.L.Moore of London and is described as typical commercial glass of the period. The window cost £50.

The Tomb in the North Aisle of St Peter's Church - to Thomas and Elizabeth Drake, 1485

Tomb to Robert and Ann Drake 1485

Rosemary Izat, in her Historical Outline of the Church of St Peter and St Paul, Forncett St Peter, states that the inscription on the tomb once read 'All Christian people that walk by this tomb early or late, of your charity say a pater noster for the soul of Thomas Drake' (Weever's Funeral Monuments).
