In aid of Ashwellthorpe and Wreningham church expenses

Friends of St Peter’s was formed some years ago to try to restore the church to its former glory. To enable us to do this successfully we needed to organise a series of events to fund raise. The idea came for us to hold a market on the first Saturday of each month at Forncett Village Hall between 10am and 12 noon. We have been doing this now for a few years and have raised a considerable amount of money.

Our ‘markets’ are really bake sales. We have a team of talented bakers who produce an amazing array of bakes for us to sell at very reasonable prices. For example, I recently saw a slice of Victoria Sponge in M&S café for £3.75, we sell a whole cake for £5 or £6 for a larger one. We also have many savouries including quiches, sausage rolls, cheese scones and other cakes including chocolate, coffee and walnut, lemon drizzle, meringues and so on. At Christmas we take orders for Christmas cakes and puddings as well as producing many other seasonal treats.

As well as the bakes we sell many second-hand books and jigsaw puzzles and often have garden produce kindly donated for sale by our Friends.

If you haven’t been to a market, do come along and try us out. We always have a café open serving teas, coffees and some cake to keep you going. It is a great community hub and people get to know neighbours that they haven’t met before.

A chance to stock up the garden now that autumn is here. There is likely to be a good selection of perennial plants and shrubs, garden sundries and plant pots, plus “Table top” stalls, and refreshments.
