Parish Council Meeting of 20th February 2014

Written by Anne Rayner.

The Parish Council meeting on 20th February 2014 was attended by Councillors Brian Frith, Beverley Humphreys, Claire Jordan, Jackie Bowers, Gilly Barnes and David Peacock.  Also present were County Councillor Bev Spratt and seven members of the public.

Some of the main items discussed at the meeting are mentioned here. Full minutes of the meeting can be viewed here: Minutes 2014 February 20th - in draft form until agreed by the Council at the next meeting (20th March 2014).

The following planning applications were discussed:

  • 2014/0064 – First floor extension over existing ground floor extension at Walnut Tree Cottage, Low Road, Forncett St Mary (listed building);
  • 2014/0066 – New window in external wall at The White House, Low Road, Forncett St Mary (listed building);
  • 2014/0152 – Demolition of existing garage to make way for single storey extension and re-position main entrance to property at Highfields, Long Stratton Road, Forncett St Peter;

All three were recommended for approval.

South Norfolk Council are arranging community litter picks again this year. As well as providing the equipment for the litter picks, the Council offer other incentives for taking part, such as entry to a prize draw. Forncett won £250 from this initiative last year, so this, together with the obvious benefit of having litter cleared from the village has been enough to ensure we take part again. All volunteers will be most welcome. The date has been agreed as Saturday 5th April 2014. Could anyone wishing to take part please contact the clerk (details below) or the Chairman, Brian Frith on 01953 789882. Refreshments will be provided on the day.

The noticeboard by the school will shortly be removed. This is a temporary measure only, whilst it is being repaired. There was also discussion of the options for dealing with the bus shelter at 'The Jolly Farmers' which has, over the years, developed an unwelcome tilt! There will be further discussion at the next meeting.

Although District Councillor Bob McClenning could not attend the meeting, he submitted a report including information relating to our Council Tax bills for the forthcoming year. Although it seems likely that South Norfolk Council will freeze their amount again this year, the police will be adding approximately 2% onto their precept, with the amount due for Norfolk County Council, as yet, undecided.

Pot holes can be reported on line at www.norfolk.gov.uk and then click directly on the section “Report a problem”. Feedback suggests that pot holes reported this way are dealt with swiftly so please, if you are aware of a pot hole and have the time, please fill in the form, it is very straightforward and quite short.

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Thursday 20th March 2014 starting at 7.30 pm in the Village Hall.  The agenda will be published about a week before the meeting, but if you have any matters to bring to the attention of the Parish Council in the meantime, please contact the clerk, Anne Rayner, on 01508 570700 or by email .
