On Sunday 10 June several people living in the various Forncetts attended the South Norfolk District Village Games at Framlingham Earl Sports Centre. The aim of the day was to bring Villages together to compete against similar sized villages in various sports and games.  Forncett was in the small category (although apparently we have almost 1,100 residents which was quite surprising!)

Villages can enter as many or as few categories as they want to but obviously the more you enter the more chance you have of gaining a place in the County Finals. We were lucky to have enough support to be able to enter most of the categories, which were badminton, football, (junior and adult), short mat bowls, table tennis, darts, rounders, athletics, fitness triathlon, archery and rounders. Everybody tried their very best in the various sports and we were thrilled to win the junior football outright and darts (jointly) which meant that some of us would be bringing trophies home.

As the day drew to a close we all gathered in the Sports Hall to hear the results and to everybody's amazement it was announced that we had gone through as Runners Up on the day narrowly missing out as Winners to our neighbouring villages Aslacton and Gt Moulton (Team A/M) who had won the competition last year. Everybody had really enjoyed the day and there was a real sense of team spirit with everybody supporting each other in the various events that took place.

To complete our team for the Finals Day we are still looking for a mixed doubles tennis team (age 11 and over) and we would also like to enter another under 16 athlete, male or female, (age 16 or under) to compete in the 100m, 100m hurdles (which were really small!), long jump, shot put and javelin. Although there is a competitive side to the day it is also great fun and a good opportunity to spend the day with friends old and new.

Hopefully this will be a yearly event and after this years Final we will be looking forward to next year and hoping to increase our team members. The only criteria is that you have to be living in one of the Forncetts (St Peter, St Mary or St Edmund) so if anybody feels that they would like to join in please feel free to contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots.
