Today the John Innes Centre is among the world leaders in plant genetics in horticultural and agricultural species. Much of its work is focused on peas, beans, brassica, tomatoes and wheat - unravelling the genetic make-up to bring new opportunities for plant breeding.

The visit will include the library of rare books and botanical paintings going back to the 17th century, laboratories and glasshouses, and the seed bank. They are also working on colour in plants using the snapdragon as an example.

Cost: Free.

Car parking is limited - so we will need to organise car sharing - there is space for maximum of 5 cars so let us know if you can offer or would like a lift.

Numbers are limited to a maximum of 20 and we have a small number of remaining places. Book early to avoid disappointment.
