Parish Council Meeting of 19th May 2016

Written by Anne Rayner.

The Parish Council meeting on 19th May 2016 was attended by Councillors Brian Frith, Beverley Humphreys, Andrew Coleman, Gilly Barnes, Graham Gale and Dawn Welsby. Also present were the clerk and six members of the public.

Some of the main items discussed at the meeting are mentioned here. Full minutes of the meeting are available here in draft form until agreed by the Council at the next meeting (9th June 2016).

The following planning applications were discussed:

  • 2016 / 0696 – Barn Adjacent to Alborough Farmhouse, Mill Road – Erection of new stables and change of use of land for horses; some members of the public were present to voice their concerns regarding this application, which were shared by Councillors. There appear to be a variety of issues unaddressed in the planning application. Councillors unanimously agreed to object to this application.
  • 2016 / 0936 & 0938 – Corner Farm, Low Road – Variation of condition 2 of planning permission 2016 / 0016 – Barn Roof to be raised by 300mm and further changes to approved openings (includes listed building consent) – The plans were discussed and Councillors raised no objections.

The Laynes Farm planning appeal will be held at South Norfolk Council at 10am on 25 May.

Also, another planning application has been submitted in respect of Hope Valley (formerly the Tas Valley Vineyard). The application number is 2016 / 1114 and members of the public have until 2 June 2016 to comment on the application.

Noticeboards in the village – space is at a premium. Although the parish council ask for adverts and flyers to be displayed in A5 format only, this request is not being respected meaning that, when statutory parish council or election notices need to be displayed, there is often no space. This means that in the future, the policy will be enforced more rigorously. If necessary larger flyers will be removed, as will items advertising events outside of the village, as will all 'business' notices.

From 6 June onwards the bin collection day will be changing. We understand that the bin collection day will be a Wednesday but all householders should receive an information pack from South Norfolk Council confirming this.

There is still one vacancy for a Councillor. If you are interested in the village and would like to contribute in a positive way, please contact the clerk. Meetings are held once a month and normally last for around 90 minutes to two hours. Members of the public are always welcome so if you think you may be interested, why not come along to the next meeting.

Finally, whilst meeting dates will continue to be on the third Thursday of the month for the next year, June is an exception and the meeting will be on the second Thursday, the 9thJune. The start time will be 7.30pm as usual.

The agenda will be published about a week before the meeting, but if you have any matters to bring to the attention of the Parish Council in the meantime, please contact the clerk, Anne Rayner, on 01508 570700 or by email  .
